The rifle was originally chambered in the long-obsolete .44 rimfire. This cartridge, also called the .44 Henry, propelled a 200-gr lead bul-let at a respectable 1,100 feet per second. To make it accessible to the modern shooter, however, Uberti chambers it instead for the popular .45 Colt; this centerfire round features similar ballistics as the older rimfire cartridge while being widely available and capable of shooting heavier slugs for better performance on game.
One last thing: however beautiful, these premium Uberti guns are not designed to be safe-queens! They do just as well at the range or in the field as they do on the coffee-table as you show them off to your friends.
