SMITH & WESSON M48 22WMR 4" 6rd Revolver - Black

The 48 is as close to the classic S&W centerfire revolvers as possible. Almost all parts are common K/L frame. This has the traditional barrel lug cylinder lockup (not the newer frame-mounted detent). It is also the older one-piece barrel. No complaints about clocking. But the firing pin retaining pin would not budge. First S&W I owned that this happened. We got a super-small vise grips and levered it out with some effort. Then drilled out the hole using a hand drill. Smith did not finish the hole properly and whoever inserted the retaining pin just swaged it in (instead of tagging the gun for rework). Had to adjust the sights (very tight) and piant the from sight (black on black). Now shoots very well. Double action pull is smoother than my 19. It is quite heavy for 22 mag, so no recoil. But it does spit some, even though lockup is tight. Very happy to get this because 22 mag is one of the few cartridges still readily available. Grips are big (but smaller than the 19) and comfortable.
