This Sawyer Mini water filter is made for hikers and bushcrafters. It is very small and super lightweight. The filter itself is 14 cm long and the entire system weighs only 65 grams. This small filter is also very versatile. You can fill the supplied water bag with the dirty water and connect the filter to it, use the straw to drink directly from the source, screw the filter onto a standard water bottle, or connect it to the hose of your water bag. It's super easy to use!
The water filter
A Sawyer water filter consists of lots of hollow fibre microtubes that trap contaminants, while allowing clean water to flow through them easily. Each tube in the Sawyer Mini is guaranteed to be 0.1 microns wide. This means that no pore in this filter is larger than 0.1 microns. It is therefore impossible for harmful bacteria to get through the filter. The filter pore size filters the following:
- 99.99999% of all bacteria, such as salmonella, cholera and E. coli.*
- 99.9999% of all protozoa, such as giardia and cryptosporidium
- 100% microplastics The water filter lasts for roughly 450,000 litres. Which seems more than sufficient to us! You can reuse it as often as you want, without having to buy expensive replacement filters. Please note: this filter does not remove viruses from the water! In North America and Europe this isn't necessary, because viruses in water are rare in these areas. Are you going to another continent? Then add an extra method to clean the water (such as Hadex) or choose a filter that does filter viruses from the water. The filter also doesn't remove bad tastes from the water.
